In the UK the usual standard that is quoted for fire alarms is BS5839 Part 1 2002 but there are others such at BS5839 Part 6, Part 8, EN54 and various building regulations. Even within these standards there are sub standards such as type L1, L3, P2, LD1 and Grade A. Most of these standards are meaningless to end-users and can be confusing for Fire Officers, Buildings Engineers, Insurers and other specifying authorities.
